Testimonials from the PeakPilates™ certification program

Pilates has changed the way I do everything from the way I walk up and down the stairs to lifting a bag of groceries!

The Peak Pilates certification program deepened my understanding of my own Pilates practice and of how to teach others. Melody’s instruction makes the Pilates method relevant to everything we do. We learned how to use our bodies in each exercise, how the exercises are connected to each other, and how the system works based upon elements such as exercise order. Melody’s visual images and rhyming technique made learning fun!

- Kit Gwin

I like Peak because it teaches you both the exercises and the transitions. It makes the movement more complete. It makes sense. I like the timeframe in which we have to study and complete the program fitting it into my life. The trainers are also very knowledgeable, talented, humorous, and kind. They care how much you learn about the Pilates system—the 5 part formula and format.

Melody is an experienced trainer and what she’s talking about. She is powerful and motivates and inspires people to be as good as she is.

- Susan Zhu

Melody and the The Good Space training site are both nurturing and energizing at the same time. Already having a few professional certifications, I feel the Peak Pilates certification program is every bit as good as the other programs (edit that with a more positive spin?), with regard to resources, availability, and attitude.

Within the structure of the Peak Pilates system, there is freedom to make the system our own, and Melody has encouraged us to do that.

- Jackie Suchsland

I think Melody is inspiring, motivating and has a great attitude. She makes the training weekends fun even when you are soooo tired! She also makes herself available to her students with regards to questions and personal training. Peak should be proud to have her!

Having always had a liking and appreciation for Pilates, I decided that I would always make it a part of my life. I have been taking Pilates 3-4 times a week for the past 6 years. I have had excellent teachers; however, the best-trained teachers are all Peak Certified. I know this because I asked. So, from a long time ago I knew that I respected the classical method. It has given me a certain comfort in knowing that this is the method that Joseph Pilates meant for his movement system. I think if he was still alive, he would still have his “heart and soul” introductory mat exercises for everyone to learn first. We know this because the “elders” that are still alive, and instructing or just sharing, impart this method to us.

So when making my decision to undertake acquiring a certification it was a natural decision to choose Peak. I recently had the occasion to hear these words “God does not call the equipped----He equips the called” I think Joseph Pilates intuitively knew this. I think he helps those people who have the will and desire to find a way to feel the movement system he developed until it becomes a way of life not just exercises. Believe that it will help you concentrate and focus when maybe it has become a difficult thing to do. Believe when your instructor tells you to “empty the teacup” and “trust the process”---it works. This will help all the people you will have the opportunity to instruct and help. Not only is The Good Space aesthetically great, you quickly realize that good, solid basics are being taught there.

This has been a wonderful learning experience both mentally and physically. I have learned so much about myself as a person, instructor and student! My Peak Trainer is so wonderful and made the whole experience worthwhile. I would recommend the certification process to anyone interested in becoming the best instructor they can be! Pilates is the best exercise for strength, stability, flexibility and posture all in one, especially when you learn from an instructor who knows their stuff. My Peak Trainer is that instructor and she is helping me become one too!

-Kendell Barbles, completed PPS1

Peak Pilates has given me the practical teaching skills I need to teach and lead students in a very effective workout. I feel confident to go home and lead my clients deeper into their own Pilates journey. I look forward to PPS 2 knowing that my own journey has only begun.

-Sarah Burton, completed PPS1

It’s been a rough but rewarding program to be involved in. It has been like holding a second full-time job knowing the paycheck will come at some point. I’ve noticed changes in my body and found out I could do things I didn’t think I could. I thought I was going to have to pull out of the sessions due to an injury but found I could modify to my body and injury and was still able to get the full effect of Pilates.

-Joe Modlin, completed PPS1

I practiced Pilates twice a week before I began this PPS 1 course and I loved it. I liked what it did for my body and even more importantly what it did for my mind. However, taking this course encouraged me to work deeper and more often. During the past four months, I found myself practicing Pilates every day. The effect on my body and my mood were obvious. Friends noticed subtle changes in my posture and others remarked about how happy I seemed. I joked that I am the poster child for Pilates because I started out as a depressed, slumped and tight woman who hardly moved beyond her computer and turned into a buoyant, light and happy person who has a spring in her step. Truly Pilates has had a profound effect on my life. I recommend it for anyone who wants to feel free and light in their own bodies.

-Jennifer Maund, completed PPS1

The process of the PPS 1 was the best thing I had in this year of 2005. It is a very hard process. It takes a lot out of you. Sometimes I even thought about not coming back. But after every end of the day I was feeling much better about myself. The person that definitely made that happen was my Peak Trainer. If today I have to think about somebody who changed my life, someone that made the difference, this person would be my Peak Trainer. I’m so glad I got to learn from my Peak Trainer. Thank you so much for changing my life.

-Natalia Agnello, completed PPS1

I really wasn’t sure if I should embark on the certification journey. I didn’t believe I could do it physically… or emotionally, for that matter. But, I dug down deep and with a a ton of encouragement from my Peak Trainer, I decided to try. I’m so glad I did! Whether I pass or fail is really not the issue. I made it through, I learned a ton and I’m amazed at what I’ve accomplished. What a journey! Thank you Peak.

-Jennifer Greenberg,completed PPS1

Going through the Pilates Certification Program has helped me incredibly! I have become more aware of how my body works and why it doesn’t. By implementing certain principles and techniques I have been able to transform from the inside out! It has also helped me in other aspects of my life. Just by standing tall and engaging all the connections into my powerhouse, I feel more confident. Teaching, and being able to express movement clearly in a class or session, has helped me in how I present myself in daily life. Learning the skills of teaching and practicing Pilates is an incredible tool for my health and my life.

-Melinda Wilk, completed PPS2

The PPS1 Certification process came as a difficult period in my life. I was overwhelmed by real life, and the depth and breadth of PPS1, plus the physical challenge seemed daunting, if not impossible. Being able to persevere, complete and pass PPS1 gave me an incredible sense of strength, showing me my own resilience. It gave me the ability to empathize and yet challenge my students, knowing the benefits, both physically and emotionally that a Pilates training program can provide.

I came into PPS2 eager to learn more, knowing that I would be thrown into “unconscious incompetence” once again. It can be scary to enter back into that vulnerable place, where you know nothing. That in itself makes me a better teacher I believe, because my own humility helps me understand my students. Knowing that panicky “I can’t do this” is just part of the process. Having that perspective of process is so helpful.

-Laura Phillips, completed PPS2

I have been coming to The Good Space since September 2003, taking privates and mat classes. I went through PPS1 in January 2004. Focusing on the body-mind-spirit connection and connecting movements to breath made me feel much more balanced. Being a mother of two little children didn’t allow me to do something for myself in a long time. So the very first training week-end I was totally overwhelmed and in tears, crying all the way home. My husband only said: “I thought you wanted this?” YES, yes, I do. My little breakdown led through a breakthrough. Since then, I have been growing, teaching, enjoying it, and I just keep on going!

-Marita Lissanon, completed PPS2

When I originally signed up for PPS1, I never even dreamt that I would EVER actually become a Pilates Instructor. I was doing it just to help in my personal practice. I didn’t think I had the “body” to be a Pilates Instructor, much less the confidence! I have been doing Pilates for 8 years and love it. My intense training changed my life!

-Kathy Longmore, completed PPS2
