MELODY MORTON, Studio Owner, Peak Pilates Trainer

Backed by a BA in Dance and 16 years of experience in dance, teaching and management in the service fields, Melody Morton delivers what she promises—a positive life-changing program.  Her inspiring leadership, warmth and clear focus attract loyal clients of all ages.  Her approach is holistic, meaning each client is evaluated and encouraged personally in an inviting supportive environment.

Pilates and yoga are Melody’s primary focus because, “They are the 2 most effective systems for lasting physical and emotional change I have found.  Pilates creates strength and yoga flexibility.  Combined or alone, either system can transform one’s self to a person who can move through life’s challenges with courage and a high degree of energy. MARY ARMENIA, Massage Therapist

Mary is a Licensed Massage Therapist from the Phoenix School of Holistic Massage, a graduate from The School of Transformation and Healing and a Reiki Master & teacher. Her massage techniques include Swedish, Thai, Trigger-point and Pressure-point, incorporating Reiki & healing touch. As a Certified Natural Health Professional, she encourages clients toward holistic & balanced living supported by proper foods, supplements and herbs. Mary is also owner of The V.I.B.E. Machine (Vibrational Integration Bio-Photonic Energizer), an innovative tool for creating higher vibration in each cell in the body using beneficial electromagnetic fields. back to top

 

MARY BANGE, Pilates, Senior Instructor (her website)

Mary Bange’s lifelong commitment to sports and fitness recently led her to become a fitness professional. Her credentials in the amateur fitness world are impressive; former record holder in the 50 kilometer run, an Olympic Trials qualifier in the marathon, eight-time winner of Paavo Nurmi Marathon (Mile 18 dedicated in her name). Mary has earned the Peak Pilates Comprehensive Certification. She has enhanced her Pilates certification by becoming a Cancer Exercise Specialist (CES) through The Pink Ribbon Program. As a CES she is qualified to provide Pilates-based exercise programs to breast cancer survivors. In addition, Mary is a certified personal trainer through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Her athletic background allows her to design a Pilates workout for the seasoned athlete or the exercise novice. Her professional philosophy is: “to share my passion for fitness with my clients by making a workout both challenging and fun.” back to top

 

KAT BIGBEE, Pilates Instructor

Kat received her Bachelors degree from Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. During this time she apprenticed at a local Pilates studio and studied under Stott instructor Anne Marie Allara. She was inspired to become an instructor after experiencing the benefits of better physical, mental and emotional health first hand through Pilates. Kat has been practicing Pilates for five years and is currently working on her Stott Pilates certification in mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Chair and Barrels. She also avidly studies yoga as well as music and is deeply interested in integrating her knowledge to create a unique and fun environment for exercise. back to top

MONICA DELGADO, Pilates Instructor

Monica graduated from the University of the Philippines with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts, majoring in Painting. During the day, she teaches art in an inner city middle school. A former gymnast and cheerleader, Monica has always balanced an active lifestyle with her passion for the arts. After discovering Pilates and realizing the significance of the principles and benefits of the practice, Monica permanently incorporated it into her lifestyle. For her, the Pilates principles branches out to everyday life tasks as well as in her own art making. She is currently PPS-I Certified at the Good Space. back to top

 

LAURA ELY, Pilates Instructor

Laura Ely holds a BFA in Dance from Barat of DePaul University in Lake Forest IL. Upon college graduation, Laura’s training continued in NYC where she performed with the Peridance Ensemble and was on scholarship at Peridance and Steps on Broadway. Laura chose to further her development as a performing artist, choreographer and teacher by joining The Dance Ad Deum Dance Company, and moved to Houston in 2004. Laura has taught at various dance schools, gyms, and universities in the Houston area. A few of these include: Pilates with Janie Parker, Houston City Club, Houston Community College and Rice University. She has extensive training in Mat Pilates, Reformer and the Cadillac and is certified through Balance Body University. Her desire is to share what’s she’s learned about core strength, balance, coordination, and mind body connection through her classes. MELINDA GRUNEWALD, Pilates Instructor

Melinda graduated from the University of Arizona with a Business degree and a major in Marketing. From a very young age she incorporated dance and fitness into her daily life, joining the dance team in high school and practicing ballet, jazz and modern dance throughout high school and college. She soon realized the importance of the theories and practice of Pilates, and started integrating it to her teaching as well as her one personal exercise routine. She is certified at The Good Space through PPS II and the Barrel Levels I and II. back to top

 

KIT GWIN, Pilates Instructor

Kit’s on her third career as a Pilates instructor. She worked in public relations and politics for many years and served as a political appointee in Washington, D.C. from 1980 to 1992. Then, after marrying and moving to Texas, she decided to give her first love a try. She started working as an actress and continues to do so now. But, about 5 years ago, Kit realized that her body was craving some sort of exercise that would be less aggressive than all of the high impact types of exercise she had been doing for so many years. She decided to give Pilates a try. “I saw my body start to change right away. My back felt better, I had more energy, and I loved the mind/body connection that came through my Pilates practice.” That was the beginning of a new passion; a passion that Kit brings to her teaching; empowering women to be the best that they can be as they build health and well being into middle age and beyond. back to top

TISH HOLLAMON, Pilates Instructor

Tish Hollamon is a wife, a mother of two gorgeous little girls, and a passionate second year Pilates Instructor. Her passion for Pilates began 8 years ago. She wanted to help others, especially moms and other women, find a passion in the only method of movement that she believes truly encompasses the total mind, body, & spirit to the fullest extent. Tish has a B.S. degree from Sam Houston State University and had a very successful 13-year career in corporate America. She decided to leave it all behind when she realized how her career was taking a toll on her body and mind. After having her first child, a friend introduced her to Pilates and it was a revelation. It was the beginning of an 8-year learning quest, which led to her dream of becoming an instructor. Tish says she decided on the Peak Method because “it truly emphasizes authentic Joseph Pilates origin with an athletic flair to boot…" "In today’s world everyone must treat their whole being with a little more care inside & out. Whether you’re a successful career oriented person, or a mother, or a wife, whatever your role is in life----- use the Pilates Method as I have to add value to YOUR BEAUTIFUL LIFE!” back to top

 

DONNA MURPHY, Massage Therapist

Donna is a Licensed Massage Therapist with over 14 years of experience and is committed to helping all of her clients achieve optimal health through the benefits of massage. Donna combines Swedish massage with deep tissue work, trigger point techniques, neuromuscular therapy and aromatherapy. As a professional massage therapist, she has over two years of Chiropractor assistance and has the knowledge to refer to other professionals to compliment the benefits of massage. She continues to be one of the massage therapists to work with the Houston Ballet Company. back to top

 

LAURA PHILLIPS, General Manager, Pilates, Senior Instructor

Pilates is about change...balance...strength...stretch. Laura Phillips, a comprehensively trained instructor, loves to bring these elements to her clients' bodies and lives. "I find that the Pilates principals flow onto all aspects of life: centering, connecting, flow, precision, breath, and what I call active relaxation." As well as acting as General Manager of the studio, Laura works with a variety of clients, from age 8 to 80, men and women, dancers, athletes and others who want to develop core strength, tone their bodies and move with more agility and power. She is president and founding member of the Pilates Houston Association, and a member of the Pilates Method Alliance. She has a BA, and a dance background, having trained and performed in California. Laura is currently working towards becoming a Teacher Trainer for Peak Pilates. back to top

 

SELISE STEWART, Yoga Instructor

Selise is a native Houstonian and a Graduate of the University of Texas. Selise has been studying,practicing and teaching YOGA ASANA for over ten years in Houston. Selise Teaches Level 1 and Level 2 classes and offers private instruction by appointment Currently Selise is Practicing and Teaching The Iyengar Method of Yoga. Iyengar Yoga was developed by world renowned living Yoga Master B.K.S. Iyengar. Iyengar Yoga is known for its precise emphasis on skeletal alignment and muscle action. Props are used as well as detailed instruction and correction by the instructor so that each pose is safe, grounded and integrated. An integrated pose(asana) benefits all systems of the body, including cardiovascular, digestive, nervous and immune. Anyone, regardless of age, level of fitness or flexibility can benefit from Iyengar Yoga. back to top

CATHY TERRAZAS, Pilates Instructor

Cathy graduated from Texas Tech University with an Honors degree in Marketing and went on to build a successful career in banking. Her enthusiasm for fitness includes a background in ballet, modern dance, Pilates, and yoga. She was introduced to Pilates in 2002 and immediately fell in love with the movement system. She began her teaching career in 2005 when she was certified in Basic and Intermediate Mat through Peak Pilates under Julie Williams at The Good Space. After the birth of her son in 2006, Cathy decided to leave banking behind and pursue her passion for Pilates. She trained with Melody Morton at the Good Space and successfully completed PPS-1 in 2007. Cathy's goal is to share her passion for Pilates with her students and enable them to fully experience the mind-body-spirit benefits Pilates offers. back to top

 

SUSAN-MARIE WILLIAMS, Pilates Instructor

Susan-Marie is certified personal trainer, group fitness instructor and NPC national figure competitor. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Cornell University, and a Masters Degree from Texas A&M University in Soil Science, she works part-time as an Environmental Geoscientist. She was first introduced to the fundamentals of Pilates with a teaching certification in Mat Science (yoga and dance therapy) in 1996. Susan received her first yoga certification (Vinyasa) in 2003, and continues to teach yoga classes that are easy to follow yet challenging and invigorating. From 1998 to 2007 Susan-Marie was the group fitness coordinator and master instructor at Power House Gym in Houston. She continues to teach group fitness as she continues her education in Pilates. She hopes to one day become a Peak Pilates Master Trainer. Her passion is seen with the clients that she works with, encouraging them to make fitness a part of their every day lifestyle. back to top
